Unveiling at WWDC27
According to today's Bloomberg report by Mark Gurman, Apple plans to unveil its long-awaited AI glasses at the next Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in 2027. This unveiling should take place several months before the actual market launch, which is scheduled for late 2027. Earlier reports indicated that the glasses were originally expected to be available by the end of 2026, but were delayed due to complex privacy issues.
The glasses could use data and actions from third-party apps, similar to the new Siri AI, and not be limited only to Apple's own functions.
Privacy Concerns
One reason for the delay from the original late 2026 timeline is efforts to resolve privacy issues. Existing products from Meta face criticism and bans due to cameras. Apple is exploring several options:
- A device completely without cameras.
- Cameras only for AI analysis of the surroundings, without the ability to take photos or videos – similar to the planned cameras in AirPods and the visual intelligence feature in the iPhone.
Apple is also prototyping new hardware and software privacy features that are not available on existing products.
Summary
Apple's AI glasses will not have a display, but will allow photography, music listening, calling, and interaction with Siri. A unique and stylish design is expected, setting them apart from the competition. Sales should begin in late 2027.
