Apple today announced the largest single commitment under its American Manufacturing (AMP) program. It is a $30 billion contract with Broadcom to develop and supply custom chips.
What will the investment bring?
Thanks to the deal, Broadcom will expand and modernize its plant in Fort Collins, Colorado, investing $1.5 billion. This will result in the production of more than 15 billion chips made in the USA. The project will also support hundreds of American jobs.
Broader context
Apple last year pledged to invest $600 billion in the US economy over four years. This contract is the largest item under AMP so far. Apple previously signed a similar deal with Samsung.
Apple CEO Tim Cook said: "We are proud to deepen our investments in the US economy. The components manufactured in Fort Collins are key to the performance and connectivity that our customers expect."
